This paper relates to a project run by Katharine Hubbard with my help, at the University of Cambridge. We worked with students to produce online resources for use in first-year undergraduate practical classes, including the physiology classes which I lead. The paper describes the problems that new undergraduates experience with University-level practical class material, and the resources that we created to help with this. We discuss the influence of prior educational background on the students, and also the advantages of involving undergraduates as partners in the development of educational material.
